Cannonau

Some places around the world have something special that makes their inhabitant to live longer: Okinawa in Japan, Ikaria in Greece, Loma Linda in California, Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica and Sardinia, the beautiful Italian island in the center of Mediterranean sea.

It looks like the secret of Sardinia’s citizens longevity comes from their local red wine: Cannonau, known in other countries as Grenache and probably exported by the Spanish around year 1300.
Recent studies have demonstrated that Cannonau vines contain a powerful antioxidant called procyanidinis a members of proanthocyanidin (or condensed tannins), its concentration is 5 to 10 times higher than in any other wine.
The effects of proanthocyanidin  include neutralizing oxidants and free radicals, depressing blood fat and inhibiting destruction of collagen, the most abundant protein in the body. These influences, along with other mechanisms, explain their benefit in venous and capillary disorders, including venous insufficiency, capillary fragility, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Drink responsibly and enjoy all these beneficial effects!
